Meet the Owner
Hi, I’m Maxine McElree, MBA, owner and founder of Hummingbird Medical Billing Specialists.
I’ve worked in healthcare revenue cycle operations since 2001, with experience spanning patient registration, billing operations, coding, management, payer follow up, and revenue cycle support. I created Hummingbird to give providers something I believe they deserve: a billing partner that is knowledgeable, transparent, responsive, and genuinely invested in the financial health of their practice.
My “why” is deeply personal. Hummingbird was created during a time in my life when I was searching for renewed purpose and something meaningful to build. It gave me the opportunity to turn decades of experience into work that truly helps others.
Today, Hummingbird specializes in behavioral health and psychiatry billing, including TMS, Spravato, and interventional psychiatry. Our approach is hands on and transparent because providers should always understand what is happening with their revenue cycle.
Outside of work, I’m happiest somewhere quiet with my husband, our German Shepherds, a good book, and preferably some mountains nearby. I also genuinely enjoy solving complicated problems, including the occasional payer mystery that makes absolutely no sense.
At its core, Hummingbird is about partnership. Our clients are never just an account number, and my goal is to make the business side of running a practice feel a little less overwhelming and a lot more manageable.
